Imports in Brazil
Requirements and Customs Regulations
Please note that all of the following documents must be sent to us at least 7 days before the arrival of the ship to Brazil. All signatures must be notarized and copies legalized in Brazil or at the Embassy/Consulate abroad.
For All Shipments

Notarized copies of passport (all pages), Brazilian ID, and CPF card.

Notarized copy of the airline ticket of arrival in Brazil.

List of goods (in Portuguese) shipped, with values in USD and signed by the shipper.

Notarized Power of Attorney, issued by a Notary Public (model supplied by Transworld).

Proof of residence in Brazil, such as a utilities bill or rental contract.

Notarized copy of a document under your name that proves residence abroad for more than 1 year (Certificate issued by the Brazilian Consulate or the last 13 utility bills, etc.).
Note: Brazilian Customs will not accept simple copies, scanned documents, or faxes.
Brazilians Returning or Immigrants Holding Permanent Visa

Must have lived abroad for more than 365 days.

Must obtain a residence certificate from the Brazilian Embassy/Consulate at the origin, or provide documents (like utility bills) proving residence abroad for more than 365 days.

Customs will check the number of days you visited Brazil during the last 12 months. If you stayed for more than 45 days, taxes will be charged.
Immigrants with Temporary Visa (Work Visa)

The shipper must have a work contract in Brazil.

The shipment will only be cleared with a Guarantee Bond signed by the owner.

The visa entrance must already be stamped in the passport by the Federal Police.

Important: Only send the shipment when all papers are in order to avoid delays and high port/airport expenses.
Diplomats

Diplomats must apply for a diplomatic franchise via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) before the shipment arrives.

Vehicles: Only foreign diplomats can import new or used vehicles tax-free.

If a container has both a move and a car, the origin agent must issue two separate OBLs to prevent delays and high storage costs.
Import of New (0 KM) and Old Vehicles (Over 30 Years)

Importers must be registered with Brazilian Customs (RADAR system).

Restricted and Prohibited Items

Alcoholic Beverages: Tax-free up to 12 bottles. More than 12 bottles incur a 50% tax on the declared value. Acceptance is at the inspector’s discretion.

Weapons & Ammunition: Subject to approval by the Army Ministry before leaving the country.

Wood Packing: Liftvans, crates, and any wooden material must be stamped and fumigated. A fumigation certificate must be provided with the OBL.

Animals: Cats and dogs require Health and Vaccination Certificates.

Prohibited Items: Plants, narcotics, drugs, food, cans, cars (unless specified), electric bikes/scooters, boats, drones, fuel-powered engines, and firearms. Check with us before sending non-standard household items.
Important Notes
New items are no longer subject to duties.
Arrival: Shippers must be in Brazil before the shipment arrives.
Air Ticket: Keep a copy of your arrival air ticket for customs clearance.
Storage: Shipments must arrive within 180 days of the shipper’s arrival. All imports pay port/airport storage fees based on the declared CIF value in 2-week periods.
Payment: Customs clearance fees, THC, storage, and demurrage are usually invoiced in Brazil.
