Documents for Imports into Brazil

Your import or export process can be expedited if certain requirements of Brazilian Customs are observed.
The necessary information for these procedures can be found in the texts below. Our sales team is available to answer any unrelated questions.

It is very important that the list of documents be sent/delivered to us as soon as possible so that we can begin the process with Brazilian Customs.

All copies must be authenticated and your signatures must be notarized.

Please note that all documents must be sent to us at least 7 days before the ship’s arrival in Brazil and that all authentications and signature verifications must be done in Brazil or at the Embassy/Consulate abroad.

Special Instructions:
Importers must be in Brazil before the shipment arrives; Importers must keep their travel ticket as it will be required for customs clearance of the move.

FOR ALL DEPARTURES

Certified copy of passport, ID card and CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID);

Certified copy of the airline ticket for arrival in Brazil;

List of goods with values ​​in dollars, signed by the client;

Power of Attorney by Public Instrument at the notary’s office (template provided by Transworld) ; 

Proof of residence in Brazil (water, electricity, gas or landline telephone bill);

Proof of residence abroad for the last 12 months or a certificate of residence issued by the Brazilian Embassy/Consulate abroad;

The CPF number (Brazilian taxpayer ID) must be mentioned on the Bill of Lading (BL) for all shipments, without exception. If the customer does not have a CPF, please contact us for instructions on how to proceed.

Note: Brazilian customs does not accept simple copies, scanned documents, or documents sent by fax.

IMPORTERS WITH TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT VISAS

Note: The passport must have the authorization stamp issued by the Federal Police.

FOR DIPLOMATS

The documents above, numbered 1 through 7.

Diplomatic clearance for customs clearance must be requested before the arrival of the shipment. Obtaining diplomatic clearance for returning Brazilian diplomats takes approximately 10 days. Demurrage and port or airport storage are the responsibility of the originating agent. Please ensure that these costs are included in your proposal.

Customs Regulations for the Importation of Personal and Household Goods and Cars into Brazil

Brazilians returning or foreigners with permanent visas

The client must prove that they have lived outside of Brazil for more than  365 days . To do this, the client can go to a Brazilian consulate/embassy abroad and obtain a Certificate of Residence or bring paid bills from the last 12 months.

You cannot have stayed in Brazil for more than 45 days (consecutive or intermittent) in the last 12 months or you will pay tax.

FOREIGNERS WITH TEMPORARY VISA (WORK VISA)

The documents above, numbers 1 to 7.

Note: The passport must have the authorization stamp issued by the Federal Police.

Publication of the visa in the official gazette. The client must have an employment contract in Brazil, and boarding will be authorized upon signing a  Declaration of Responsibility . The passport must contain the entry stamp issued by the Federal Police.

Please only dispatch the shipment when the customer has all the documentation in order in order to avoid customs delays and high port fees.

FOR DIPLOMATS

They must request diplomatic clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for customs clearance before the shipment arrives in Brazil.

Importation of new and used vehicles for diplomats:
Only foreign diplomats are permitted to import vehicles without paying taxes.

Please note that when both a vehicle and a household item are in the same container, the originating agent must issue two separate OBLs (one for the household items and one for the vehicle). This procedure will prevent delays and high demurrage and port storage costs. 

Importation of new (0 km) and classic (over 30 years) vehicles.

For the importation of new (0 km) and older cars (over 30 years old), the importer must register with the Federal Revenue Service in the RADAR system.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Tax exemption applies only to foreign diplomats. All others pay a 50% tax on the declared value.  It is the prerogative of the tax authorities to confiscate or accept payment of taxes .

WEAPONS, AMMUNITION AND DANGEROUS OBJECTS

Subject to approval by the  Ministry of the Army  before leaving the country of origin.

WOOD MATERIAL

Liftvans, airvans, wooden crates, and boxes arriving in containers will be fumigated. The  cost of fumigation is the customer’s responsibility .

PROHIBITED ITEMS

Plants, narcotics, drugs, cans, food, drones, electric scooters, electric bicycles, boats of any type and size, gasoline/diesel lawnmowers, any engine that uses fuel, gas tanks (even if empty), generators, cars, motorcycles. There are other items not mentioned; if you have any questions about any item, please contact us.

PETS

For cats and dogs, a certificate of departure and vaccination  of the animal is required  .
